What we did:
- Removed the existing exhaust up to the turbo
- Increased 2” to 2.5” exhaust pipe
- Installed MagnaFlow 10416 Exhaust Muffler
- Shortened the entire system by 5 feet
Why we did it:
We knew this modification needed to be done at the beginning of the project for a number of reasons. First, the upgrade gives us more useable space under the frame for future additions like the auxilliary fuel tank. Second, the upgrade provides the engine and turbo with a larger breathing system. Third, it provides a small gain in horsepower. And lastly, it increases bottom end acceleration. Out of all the modifications we have planned, this modification probably gives us the most significant performance increase. For anyone who owns a Delica, any increase in engine performance is a bonus.
We modeled this project after the modification we saw in DinoEvo’s Delica van. We had Joe at A1A Performance Mufflers in Santa Rosa, California do the work for us and couldn’t be happier with the results. Their workmanship and professionalism is superb and we would gladly recommend them to anyone.
In the meantime, we are working on adding a snorkel with a cold air intake to make out exhaust system overland ready. Stay tuned for that modification.

Apr 24, 2018Hey there, very nice blog and nice pictures ! I’d like to get the same exhaust, but it’s not that easy to find someone here in France for this kind of work, and so far everyone is asking way too much money.
Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay to get this line done ?? Here they ask around 700euros, one day job. Seems too much for such a short tubes with 2 bends……. thanks and safe travels !

May 2, 2018Hi!
So happy you found us! The exhaust has been a great upgrade. It cost us about $350 USD for the muffler and the work to install and replace the existing exhaust from the turbo back. It took a couple hours of labor at the most. They basically installed a 2 1/2″ stainless turbo back system with a 2 1/2″ Magnaflow Magnapack muffler. If you are interested in contacting the shop that did our work, Joe at A1A Performance Muffler is who you would speak to. They are in Santa Rosa, CA and their phone number is 707-586-6691. Let me know if you need anything else!

May 3, 2018thanks for your reply, this is exactly what I expected ! I know you said you replaced the tube all the way to the turbo, but just to clarify, you really replaced the line up to the turbo itself, or up to the 2 plates connecting the main line with a small tube going behind the turbo.
The whole line seems fairly simple to make, but a plate matching the turbo seems a bit more complex….. anyway, thanks for that 🙂 You still have that delica ? Fantastic machine 🙂 I took mine to Africa for a year, and it really needs some love now haha, too much repairs…… but I will bring him back to life !

Jun 5, 2018We replaced the line all the way up to the turbo flange. We still have the Delica and are driving down to South America in it! It’s good to hear that yours made it through Africa!
